On My Honor

We are spending the week reading aloud On My Honor by Marion Dane Bauer.

In the first 3 chapters we have learned the following:

On the way to the park, Joel’s best friend Tony challenges him to take a swim
in the treacherous Vermillion River. Both boys have been warned never to go
near the river, but Joel gives in. He doesn’t want Tony to think he’s scared.

My questions for you 5th graders are:
  • What is peer pressure?
  • Have you ever been influenced to do something by a friend that you later regretted?
  • Why do friends have such influence over us?
Please respond in a comment below.

  • Plan a fundraiser for cerebral palsy
  • Create an informational presentation about cerebral palsy (research)
These will be due Friday, Dec. 6th

Out Of My Mind by Sharon Drapers Chapters 21-24

After reading today, think about the story, the events that unfolded, and one evolving theme.  Write a summary based on today's reading.  Include the following:

  • Who are the key characters?
  • Where is the story set?
  • What problem or goal or challenge does the main character face?  What does the character do about that?
  • What do you think the character is going to learn from his or her experiences?
  • Do you have an idea of what the theme or central message might be?
For extra credit draw a picture and include it in your post.

Note:  This will look like a paragraph.  Indent.  Use well written sentences.  Use punctuation and do a spell check.  Show what you know and do your best work.
